Your responsibilities

You are responsible for:

  • The accuracy of the data you enter or upload, including bank statements, receipts and invoices.
  • Keeping your login credentials secure and not sharing them with others.
  • Reviewing AI-generated suggestions before accepting them — Alvin's categorisations and estimates are suggestions, not final decisions.
  • Using the service lawfully and not uploading data that belongs to someone else without their permission.

Important disclaimer

Alvin provides bookkeeping software and AI-generated estimates, not regulated accounting, tax or financial advice. Draft accounts and tax estimates produced by Alvin are indicative and should not be relied upon as final figures for filing or decision-making.

Alvin is an AI tool, not a qualified accountant. Any categorisations, tax estimates or draft accounts it produces should be reviewed by a qualified accountant before being used for official filing, tax returns or important financial decisions.

For regulated accounting, tax advice or filing services, you can engage a professional accountant from Digital Tax Accountant — see the next section.

Relationship with Digital Tax Accountant

Digital Tax Accountant is a UK-based accountancy firm that provides Alvin for free. If you need professional help, qualified accountants from Digital Tax Accountant can review your books, prepare your returns and file them externally through their own professional software.

Engaging a professional accountant is entirely optional and on your terms. Any professional filing service is a separate engagement between you and Digital Tax Accountant, with its own terms and fees agreed directly. Alvin's free tools remain available to you whether or not you engage an accountant.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of these terms.
  • Attempt to access another user's data or account.
  • Upload malicious files or attempt to disrupt the service.
  • Reverse engineer, decompile or attempt to extract the underlying AI models or source code.
  • Use the service to provide bookkeeping services to third parties without our permission.

Intellectual property

Alvin, its software, design, AI models and branding are the intellectual property of Digital Tax Accountant. You retain ownership of all data you upload to the service. We do not claim ownership of your business or financial data.

Liability

Alvin is provided free of charge. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential losses arising from your use of the service, including any decisions made based on AI-generated estimates or draft accounts.

You acknowledge that AI-generated categorisations and tax estimates are suggestions and may not be accurate. You are responsible for reviewing all output before relying on it.

Termination

You can close your account at any time. When you do, your data will be deleted within 30 days, unless we are legally required to retain it for longer.

We may suspend or terminate your account if you breach these terms or use the service unlawfully. We will give you reasonable notice where possible.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
